The transition back to civilian life can be a difficult one for veterans. Since the 9/11 attacks, nearly 3 million U.S. soldiers have served in active duty. The military teaches critical thinking and helps soldiers form skills that are quite similar to the traits possessed by entrepreneurs.
In fact, veterans often flock to forming their own businesses at a higher rate than average folk. CreditDonkey.com, a credit card comparison and financial education website, has created an infographic to show the impact of veteran entrepreneurship in real terms. The numbers show that more than 2.4 million small businesses in the United States are owned by veterans. That’s almost 9 percent of all American companies.
Another interesting tidbit is which states are home to veteran-owned businesses. California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and New York take the lead when it come to businesses owned by U.S. veterans. Although, Oklahoma, Mississippi, South Carolina, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire rake in the most sales per year. In either case, veterans play an important role not only for the service to their country, but for the jobs they create through forming their own businesses.
